So not such a bust as usual when I go op-shopping! ๐
We went to five shops in total (our area has quite a few) and I mostly looked in manchester and craft areas to see what I could find.
Started at a Red Cross shop and found some little remnants of knit fabrics.
There’s about 1.5 metres of the pink but only about a metre of the grey marle. I could probably get a decent long sleeved t-shirt out of the pink and maybe a singlet out of the grey. I’ve signed up to and started the Craftsy ‘Sewing with Knits’ class so I thought I could use these for the class. I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into this class as I’ve only ever heard that knits are hard to work with but the instructor, Meg McElwee insists they are just as easy to work with as standard woven fabrics and she teaches you how to work with them using your standard sewing machine and no special equipment. Hoping to whip up some nice long sleeved t-shirts for winter. ๐
The next shop was a total waste and the one we drove furthest for! So we went to their counterpart Salvos store closer to home and I found a bed sheet set that I envisioned could be a darling dress for next summer. There’s two flat sheets and one pillowcase so lots to play with.
Perhaps a Colette Patterns Sorbetto also? What do you think? (Remind me to post my Sorbetto I finished this week. It’s in the same darling fabric as my Meringue skirt). I also managed to find some bias tape in red and olive at this store. Handy stuff to have in the stash. ๐ (Picture to follow)
The final two shops weren’t so good for fabric but I picked up a couple of patterns and some elastic. I’m interested in giving some gathered balloon sleeves a go on a blouse so thought the elastic could come in handy.
A lot of the patterns in all the shops we went to were VERY 80’s. I’m really keen to find some 70’s patterns as I love the clothes from that era. I have one on the way that I purchased off Etsy after seeing it on Tilly and the Buttons blog. I love Tilly, don’t you? Anyway, I digress! I picked up a pattern from Project Runway (no idea which season, only seen a couple of eps) and this amazing 70’s Simplicity 7049 pattern! After finding mostly 80’s stuff I was soooo chuffed to see this little beauty! It’s a dress, a top and and a pair of pants. I haven’t had the pattern open properly yet so I hope it’s all still there! It’s a size 14 so I’ll need to grade it up but I won’t need to go too far.
Finally, I popped back to the original store as I saw some fabric that would make an awesome Picnic Blanket Skirtย also from Tilly and the Buttons (seriously, check out her blog!). It’s a length of 4 metres and I paid the princely sum of $6! Yay!
Now ย to make something of all this!!! ๐
