Earlier in the week I purchased the new Colette Patterns pattern, Laurel. I’m super excited to try this dress. I’ve never owned a shift dress and am keen to find out how it will suit me. I know I’m quite curvy so not sure what such a simple, potentially boxy dress will look like on me.
I’m also keen to enter the competition partly because of prizes (duh!) and partly because I’m really keen to see what other people say about my makes when we’re all working on the same pattern.
I’m going to attempt to do my first ever full bust adjustment on this pattern. I’ve found from what I’ve made previously, that if I make the garment to my full bust measurement, it means I make the top/bodice too big, just to accommodate the girls. I had another sleepless night last night so used the time to read up on full bust adjustments. It’s actually easier than I thought. Not sure why I haven’t tried it yet; especially seeing as I’m a D to DD cup size. TMI??? π
I’ll be using one of the op shopped fabrics I bought the other day on my honeymoon. I’m thinking for the first one just to get my FBA experiment done and to suss out any other fitting issues, I’ll make it sleeveless. Also, I’m shit-scared of inserting sleeves. π It’ll be my first wearable muslin. Seeing as I purchased 2.5m of fabric for $3, I reckon it qualifies. π I’m also not going to underline this version.
If this works out okay and I like the way it looks, I might use a gorgeous large-patterned voile I’ve had in my stash for a little while. I got it from the clearance table at Spotlight. Gotta love a bargain. π This one I think I’ll put the sleeves in and underline it so that I can wear it as we go into winter. Provided I like the way the design looks on me. π
So I’ve assembled the dress pattern, I just need to trace it out and do my FBA before cutting into my fabric. I really hate having to do all the tracing etc. I just want to get onto the sewing part! I want a garment to wear dammit! π
Anyways, I’ll try and post as I go with my progress and whether I manage to do my FBA correctly. Stay posted! π
